MY MOTHER

 My darling Mother

Having a mother like you IS the greatest gift and biggest advantage anyone could ever have given me.

Thank you for letting me believe that I could be whoever I wanted to be, do whatever I wanted to do, there were no limitations except my drive, ambition and creativity.

Thank you for your unwavering support through out my life's  journey.

Thank you for holding my hand when I needed it most .
Thank you for always having hope for me when I didn’t have for myself.

Thank you for telling me not to give up when I said I couldn’t do it any more.

Thank you for never giving up on me when I went through that dark period, when I shut every one out of my life. When loving me must have been like trying to hold a cactus.
Thank you for loving me through all of my rejections of help and love.

Thank you for sending me that text messages of encouragement like:
'White Rabbit',
'Just came out of church. Prayed for you.'
'God has His eye on u as He has it on the sparrow',
'If your bum is numb then you feel no pain! be happy my pretty girl',
'Baby girl enjoy and stay pretty'

Thank you Ma, those messagse helped me so much.

Thank you for mediating in my relationships.
I know it must be very hard for you to be stuck in the middle of the tensions of family members.

Thank you for being the perfect grandmother

Thank you for being there for me, when other people didn’t know what to do with me or for me

Thank you for the beautiful cards & gifts I receive in the mail.

Thank you for being my good luck charm, my muse, my hero, my savior, my therapist.

Thank you .....

For a million things, for everything. I don’t know what I would do without you. There are so many many more things, small things, big things, I can say

I love you very very much, if I could be half as good a mother to my children as you are to your children, I will have done exceptionally well.

Thank you ma I love you, more than words can ever express.

Once upon a time ....

Once apon a time
In a dark wood
That smelled of dead rotting bodies
Stayed a little girl.
She had big green eyes
Brown hair,
And she stayed in a house made up of dreams.

But this little girl stayed in fear
Because her house was made up with alot of heartbreak
Bad dreams and many painful memories

How she longed to walk into the light
Into happiness
But alas ... her house was made up of a broken heart
Broken circumstances.....

Everyday, she would walk to the meadow
Lie on the swaying green grass
Smell the scent of Jasmine
And she would dream
Dream of the good life
Of love
Of laughter
Of the small things that made a person happy.

She would see the clouds chasing one another accross the blue sea of the heavens
She would see pictures in the clouds
She would hear the whispers of the wind in the trees...
Whisteling a tune
Singing to her ...
"I love you"
"I love you"
"I love you ...."
Then wearily with a dripping broken heart
She would wearily get up
Take her little brown basket
That had flowers and pebbles in it
That she had picked up and admired
Thorughout  the day

Back to the house of broken dreams
To live in hope and anguish that perhaps
This dream house would turn into a happy dream house
That perhaps her prayers would be heard for a dieing and anguish ridden world
Searching for a glue that would perhaps fix this broken dream

Travellling

Wikipedia - "Travel is the movement of people or objects (such as airplanes, boats, trains) and other conveyances) between relatively distant geographical locations"

Now once that little travelling virus has bitten
There is not much you can do BUT to fulfill that urge
As it grows like a tree, uncut, untamed into your soul
It spreads it's virus into every nook and cranny
Urging you
Prompting you
to fulfill the need like a drug.

I have stayed in many countries and have friends in many but most importantly my family stay in the USA

My most memorable is:-  Kenya

Working up north at the Tanzanian border
A small tribe (in those days unknown) stayed called: "Rendile"
We worked with the founders of the organization: "Nick & Lynn Swanepoel"

These guys herd camels and livestock.
Their entire lives revolve around their animals
Their distinctive source of food is: the blood of their animals.
During the dry months the animals become very thin due to being "over-bled"

My first word that I learned there was: "Dubrok" = which literally means "Get your ass out of the way"
That's the polite way of saying: "Please move aside"

Now I have traveled to Europe
The America's but my next favourite spot is:

Angola

I stayed for more than two (2) year, during the war period in a town called : Lobito
On an island, in this beautiful house

(when you look at this photo, we stayed towards the end on the right hand side)

This is the house we stayed in.

This was still during the internal war that had been raging.
Oh how I cried and wept there
The heartache was tremendous
You never rode anywhere in your landrover without your personal guardas (guards).

But oh, the beauty of some of the places .....
Praia da Baía Azul - my faovurite swimming spot

Conclusion - I need to travel this year - it's burning here in my soul .....

FAIRY TALES

WIKIPEDIA - Fairy tale or, as preferred by some academics, märchen is a type of folktale that typically features supernatural beings and fantastical characters, such as fairies, goblins, elves, trolls, dwarves, giants, mermaids or gnomes and are usualy magically orientated.

Only a small number of the stories refer to fairies.
The stories may nonetheless be distinguished from other folk narratives such as legends and explicitly moral tales, including beast fables.
In less technical contexts, the term is also used to describe something blessed with unusual happiness, as in "fairy tale ending" (a happy ending or "fairy tale romance" (though not all fairy tales end happily). Colloquially, a "fairy tale" or "fairy story" can also mean any far-fetched story or tall tale.

As a little girl, my mom was a book fanatic and started libraries on the most strangest and remotest of places and I guess I could kinna read before I walked type of thing ..... and my greates joy was fairy tales.

My saddest: "The Little Match Stick Girl/The Tinder Box" & "Godfather Death"
My happiest: "Cinderella" & "Sleeping Beauty"
My "I don't care a damn about you": "Hansel & Grettle"
My most frightening : "Blue Beard" - well for a little girl it is .....
You bore me to tears: "The King Who Would Have a Beautiful Wife"
The most intriguing: "The Princes & the Pea"
You gross me out: "The Nunda, Eater of People"

I have allways been a dreamer of note.

As a little girl, playing as a five year old at my parents tea plantation at Sapekoe, in my moms huge garden, I would take these flowers (Fuschia's) that looked like ballarinas, then break off some of the green leaves on top, pull off the stamina at the bottom and only leave 2, it looks like 2 feet and they would make beautiful ballerina's or princesses.
I lived in a world, all my own, filled mostly with happiness and joy

I have always been infatuated with horses, my whole life
I have good memories, my dad made my first set of reigns, he plaited them with fine leather for my first horse A thorough bred mare - "Boer" perd (horse) ... brown, with a white stripe
My faovurite horse was old 'Geel" (yellow)
Was the uglies old "soul" you have ever seen
With him I would ride over the mountains into oblivion ... into a world where I reigned queen supreme
I would sit on this horses back (no saddle)  and sing from the top of my lungs "We three kings of orient are"
With my horse I lived a fairy tale.
I believed, that all would be well ....

Oh for my youth
My dear youth ..
Now ...
Sadness and heartache is my constant companion
Where joy and peace should reign supreme .....

Whenever I am Lonely and Lost in deep Despair

When I was in matric (Gr 12) we bought these little books, that our friends, teachers and family would write in as we left the final year of our school life for the big world..

My mom gave me this poem from Helen Steiner Rice and it has been one of the pilars of my lkife, if not faith.

Yhanks ma, it has been 26 years since you gave me this poem that has shaped my life.

"Whenever I am lonely and lost in deep despair,
I bundle all my troubles up and go to God in prayer.
I tell him I am heartsick and lost and lonely too,
That my mind is deeply burdened and I don’t know what to do.

But I know He stilled the tempest and calmed the angry sea,
So I humbly ask if in His love He’ll do the same for me.
And then I just keep quiet, and think only thoughts of peace,
And if I abide in stillness, my restless murmurings cease."

Many times when we go through trials and tribulations in life, we are tempted to ask,
“Does God care?”
And the more severe the trial, the more we are inclined to answer the question in the negative.
Odd, isn’t it?
We are more certain of the love of God when all is well, but when storm clouds arise, we question His love and concern for us.

First, go to God.
Friends are nice, but go to God.
Family is nice, but go to God.
Church family is wonderful to have, but go to God.
Unfortunately God is often the last one that we turn to but the first one that we blame.
Go to God in prayer.
Second, tell God how you feel.
God can handle our anger, frustration, doubts, fears, and even our questions.
God hears.
God strengthens.
God comforts.
God cares.

Finally, after I have gone to God in prayer, after I have told God how I felt, after I thought
about and remembered what God has done in the past, I rest in Him and in the peace that
only He can provide.

Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not
give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

(John 14:27 NIV)

I preach to myself when writing this because unfortunately I do not practice what I believe or preach because I am a very weak person

So What .....

So what that I am weak
So what that I am forever seeking
So what that I am seeking for satisfaction
So what that I am seeking God

So what that I am seeking growth
So what that I am seeking knowledge
So what that I am seeking to live

Is this not what I think nature has decreed for me?

Only fleeting it seems
Or not at all it seems
Totally unsatisfying
These objects I so persue
Not a moment it sates not
Survival of the Species

And through these means;
Love and Nurture of the Children

Because with these means, ends

And outcomes
End
Purposed
Supposed
Gloriously
And that is all we really need.

Giving a Shit

The school of thought began when somebody wanted something and nobody really wanted to do anything about it, or something. Nobody cares enough to find out for sure.
Somebody probably started it, with authority probably, so let's say Zeus. He was the ultimate god and ruled over the people or something and then the people weren't happy.

I mean it is like the then Romans who didn't like the Christians.
 The Christians wanted to live.
Romans were unmoved and made them fight lions to death.

Everybody decided they hated  Jews, Christians were really too busy, witches started hexing
They were all  "oh, it was just an accident" or "what the hell are you talking about, I'm not a witch," but nobody cared and the witches were burned.

Then the people of France were upset by their monarchy.
The monarchy didn't really give a shit.
This is immortalized in Marie Antoinette's famous line "The people don't have any bread?
Why the fuck is that MY problem?" The people promptly decided to revolt.

There were a bunch of native people living in America with rights to the land, but nobody cared a crap
There was a civil war, then a attrocious boer war or something in South Africa

Karl Marx started communism, but nobody cared because he was German.

The Titanic sunk, but honestly, who gives a crap?

Never let go... Too bad, Jack, nobody cares.

Then there was a bunch of stuff about rights and who gets to vote and who gets lynched. Then there was a war in Europe.

There was a depression and lots of people died, but nobody cares.
Hitler started killing off the Jews, but nobody cared .
Then everybody found out Hitler was killing the Jews and nobody cared that nobody hadn't cared.
The hippies started spawning and protesting and doing drugs and making love and porn, but everyone pretty much ignored them.

Then this Space program launched a man onto another celestial object in the first time in history, but people got tired of it after the third try.

I think it was Vietnam's Space Program, but I forgot where they went to though. Then more stuff happened, but nobody cares about any of it except maybe September 11th.

Sometimes. In 2003, The New York Times published a story which claimed that researchers had discovered a man who actually did care.

However, three days later it was revealed that the man's name was NOBODY.

Elections were rigged in Iran.

Protests broke out and some died.
People were about to care, until Michael Jackson died.
Though, all he left behind was debt, so nobody cared.

SOMETHING SEEMS TO BE MISSING FROM THIS PICTURE WHAT CAN IT BE??????

TOILET PAPER

It's amazing how often we get some variation of the questions, like:-

 "When was toilet paper invented?",
 "Who invented toilet paper?", and
"What did people use before toilet paper was invented?"

Here are a few of the highlights in the evolution of toilet paper that I've compiled from various sources, but in short, since we're on this 'shitty' subject:-
  • Use your imagination: grass, leaves, fur, mussell shells, corncobs, stinging nettles... okay, maybe not that last, at least not more than once.
  • The ancient Greeks used stones and pieces of clay;
  • ancient Romans used sponges on the ends of sticks, kept in jugs filled with salty water.
  • Mideasterners commonly used the left hand, which is supposedly still considered unclean in the Arabian region.
  • "Official" toilet paper - that is, paper which was produced specifically for the purpose - dates back at least to the late 14th Century, when Chinese emperors ordered it in 2-foot x 3-foot sheets.
  • Corncobs and pages torn from newspapers and magazines were commonly used in the early American West. The Sears catalogue was well-known in this context, and even produced such humorous spinoffs as the "Rears and Sorebutt" catalogue. The Farmer's Almanac had a hole in it so it could be hung on a hook and the pages torn off easily.
  • Joseph C. Gayetty of New York started producing the first packaged toilet paper in the U.S. in 1857. It consisted of pre-moistened flat sheets medicated with aloe and was named "Gayetty’s Medicated Paper". Gayetty's name was printed on every sheet.
  • Rolled and perforated toilet paper as we're familiar with today was invented around 1880.
  • In 1935, Northern Tissue advertised "splinter-free" toilet paper. Yep, you read that right; early paper production techniques sometimes left splinters embedded in the paper. And you thought you had it tough!
  • In 1942, St. Andrew's Paper Mill in Great Britain introduced two-ply toilet paper
  • Amnerica experienced its first toilet paper shortage in 1973.
  • The Virtual Toilet Paper Museum opened its virtual doors in 1999.

PORN

On a cold, dark night, there's nothing better than a blazing fire in the fireplace. You can pile on the wood and let it burn nice and warm. It's safe, warm, relaxing and romantic. Now take that same fire out of the fireplace (which was built for it) and drop it in the middle of the living room. Suddenly it becomes destructive. It can burn down the whole house and kill everyone inside.
Sex is like that fire. As long as it's expressed in the protective commitment of a relationship, it's wonderful, warm and romantic BUT porn takes sex outside that context at times and we forget the love factor of giving

There should be a balance and to not let it gecome an addiction and a destructive force in your relationship.

It's important to understand that sexual addictions don't happen overnight. They take time to develop. But when they're full-blown, a man won't be able to resist the repeated urge to enter into a relationship with a sexual object or experience that gives him pleasure and the illusion of intimacy.

That last sentence defines an addict:

  1. He/she's hooked and can't say no.
  2. The object of his/her addiction gives him/her two things: pleasure and an illusion of intimacy.
Some men (and many woman) block emotional pain with sexual pleasure. Over time they have to try increasingly risky forms of sexual behavior in order to deaden the pain. Eventually their world revolves around sex. Their obsession has taken over their life.

The Sexual Addiction Test

Patrick Carnes suggests a series of four questions aimed at helping us discover if we have a sexual addiction and if so, how far it's progressed. While asking yourself these questions, it's crucial that you are brutally honest. The first step in dealing with a problem is admitting we have one.

ONE - Is Your Behavior Secret?

Are you doing things you refuse to tell others about?
Are you telling lies to cover your behavior? If so, you're isolating yourself from those you love and entering into a potentially addictive relationship with an object or event.

TWO - Is Your Behavior Abusive?

Does your sexual behavior create pain (emotional or physical) for you or others?

THREE - Is Your Behavior Used to Deaden Painful Feelings?

Are your sexual actions an effort to change your mood rather than express affections?
Do you masturbate or search for some other sexual outlet when you're depressed, bored, or angry?

FOUR - Is Your Behavior Empty of Genuine Commitment and Caring?

Are you substituting the illusion of intimacy provided by an object or event for the genuine intimacy found in a healthy relationship?
If you answered yes to even one of the four questions, your sexual behavior is either compulsive or addictive.

Addictive Stages

Photo Courtesy of Films for Christ. Copyrighted. While the four questions help determine if we have a problem, they don't tell us the extent of the problem. In order to determine that, we need to familiarize ourselves with the levels of addictions.

Pre-addiction

Pre-addiction describes people who begin to find themselves sexually stimulated through impersonal objects, like pornography, or events You're holding down a job, and your relationship with your wife or girlfriend is intact. However, you realize that while your fascination with pornography, strip shows, or erotic talk lines isn't compulsive, it is dangerous.

Level 1

At level 1 a man's lust has begun to exert its control. He's compulsively involved in such things as masturbation, pornography, homosexuality, or demeaning heterosexual relationships.
When a man reaches level 1, something significant has happened. While before he always struggled to keep his lust under control, now it's running wild. In his book The Addictive Personality, Craig Nakken notes that the single most important aspect of level 1 addictions is the emergence of the addictive personality. A man's lust, like a great dragon, has awakened from its slumber and threatens to take over his life.

Level 2

When a man reaches level 2, he's taken a bigger and more dangerous step. Now his behavior involves people. His activities include prostitution, exhibitionism, voyeurism, obscene phone calls, and touching a person intimately with or without consent.
Men who are exhibitionists or voyeurs will carry out their secret behavior for years.
All kinds of “good” people reach level 2. Hardly a week passes without a news story about a politician, teacher, or Hollywood star picking up a prostitute or making an unwanted sexual advance.

Level 3

By the time a man reaches level 3, his behavior involves serious crimes in which severe damage is done to the victim. Rape, incest, and child molestation occur at this level.

The Moment of Truth

Snake. Photo copyrighted.By now you should know if you're hooked. You should also have a feel for how far your sexual compulsion has progressed. While most of us would prefer avoiding the truth for as long as we can, eventually the moment of truth will arrive. Something will happen to force you to admit that your life is out of control.
  • You'll accidentally leave a pornographic image on your computer monitor, and someone at work will report it to your boss.
  • One of your kids or your wife will find your stash of X-rated videos.
  •  Your wife will leave because you've had another affair.
  • A policeman will arrive at your place of work because a neighbor has identified you as a Peeping Tom.
  • The school counselor will call because you've been reported to the child care agency for improperly touching a neighbor child.

Porn Addiction
Porn addiction is one of the most difficult addictions to overcome. Millions of people around the world struggle with overcoming this powerful vice once they acknowledge they have a problem. Its been compared to cocaine addiction because of similar neurochemical activity in the brain.

Signs That You or Someone You Know is Addicted

1. You or the person you know is not being as social as they used to be.
Porn turns us inward and makes us feel emotionally low.
You’re noticing a decrease in physical affection and non-sexual touch.
No matter what, both of you are feeling largely dissatisfied post-sex.

2. Healthy sex has become less interesting
It can be difficult to be turned on with normal healthy sex if you've been over-stimulating yourself with
    porn.
Your lover has become emotionally distant during sex.
You’re starting to feel sexually rejected or neglected.
In or out of the bedroom, you and your partner can no longer describe yourselves as emotionally intimate.

3. Normal sex becomes boring and disconnected.
Porn objectifies and is not about “making love”.
You need something new and more stimulating, always progressing in perverseness.

4. You seem distant and disconnected with others
Porn makes us feel uncomfortable with healthy emotionally connected relationships.

5. You feel irritable all the time.
Porn does not make us happy people and when we’re not happy we are irritable and complain about
     everything.
He might make cutting remarks about your weight or shape.

6.  You’re not only lying more but you’re always accusing your partner of things
We treat people like we’re treating ourselves.
So if we’re constantly hiding things and feeling guilty then we will treat people in a very defensive manner.
You're no longer giving straight answers to your partner
Your questions are vague and nonsensical and you're defensive when asked about porn use

7. You’re on the computer all the time and demand privacy, you're practically wed to the net
Other than private work matters there are few reasons to be so private about internet use.

Is it fair that children have to grow up?

What are the moments that mark childhood’s end?

Our children grow up mostly in hindsight, with changes happening quietly, gradually, incrementally.

We allways seem to remember the first things they ever did:-

Their first steps
Their first words
The first time they got dressed
The first  time they read their first book
All the "FIRSTS"
Even more elusive are the “LASTS.”

When was the last time I carried each one of my children's, legs wrapped around my hip, arms clasped around my neck?

Or when I tucked them into bed and kissed them goodnight saying:"Mommy, loves you"

When I sat reading them a story and all the questions, that just shoot out of their mouths and you don't know which one to answer first?

The last time that I fetched them at school?

or perhaps the last time they will sleep in their beds, where I can keep a watchful eye over them, that they don't get hurt...

There had to have been a last time, but no way to honor it as it happened.

Wrote their name on their ballet clothes?

Walked with them hand-in-hand, without them feeling "embaressed?

Once in awhile though, leaps and losses announce themselves, and we just happen to be standing there, paying attention.

We take photos when we can, like the matric farewell (prom), because we can.

These are mental snapshots, clear and rare.

Those last moments, do we remember them?

I miss, the simpler times, I just wish they did not have to grow up.
