FAIRY TALES

WIKIPEDIA - Fairy tale or, as preferred by some academics, märchen is a type of folktale that typically features supernatural beings and fantastical characters, such as fairies, goblins, elves, trolls, dwarves, giants, mermaids or gnomes and are usualy magically orientated.

Only a small number of the stories refer to fairies.
The stories may nonetheless be distinguished from other folk narratives such as legends and explicitly moral tales, including beast fables.
In less technical contexts, the term is also used to describe something blessed with unusual happiness, as in "fairy tale ending" (a happy ending or "fairy tale romance" (though not all fairy tales end happily). Colloquially, a "fairy tale" or "fairy story" can also mean any far-fetched story or tall tale.

As a little girl, my mom was a book fanatic and started libraries on the most strangest and remotest of places and I guess I could kinna read before I walked type of thing ..... and my greates joy was fairy tales.

My saddest: "The Little Match Stick Girl/The Tinder Box" & "Godfather Death"
My happiest: "Cinderella" & "Sleeping Beauty"
My "I don't care a damn about you": "Hansel & Grettle"
My most frightening : "Blue Beard" - well for a little girl it is .....
You bore me to tears: "The King Who Would Have a Beautiful Wife"
The most intriguing: "The Princes & the Pea"
You gross me out: "The Nunda, Eater of People"

I have allways been a dreamer of note.

As a little girl, playing as a five year old at my parents tea plantation at Sapekoe, in my moms huge garden, I would take these flowers (Fuschia's) that looked like ballarinas, then break off some of the green leaves on top, pull off the stamina at the bottom and only leave 2, it looks like 2 feet and they would make beautiful ballerina's or princesses.
I lived in a world, all my own, filled mostly with happiness and joy

I have always been infatuated with horses, my whole life
I have good memories, my dad made my first set of reigns, he plaited them with fine leather for my first horse A thorough bred mare - "Boer" perd (horse) ... brown, with a white stripe
My faovurite horse was old 'Geel" (yellow)
Was the uglies old "soul" you have ever seen
With him I would ride over the mountains into oblivion ... into a world where I reigned queen supreme
I would sit on this horses back (no saddle)  and sing from the top of my lungs "We three kings of orient are"
With my horse I lived a fairy tale.
I believed, that all would be well ....

Oh for my youth
My dear youth ..
Now ...
Sadness and heartache is my constant companion
Where joy and peace should reign supreme .....

  1. this blog makes me smile because as a teeny weeny little girl you used to turn pages of books without ever tearing them.. I cannot say the same of the boys. In those days there was no TV so to amuse you I did 1 of 2 things... Put you in front of the fish tank (we had a huge beautiful one at the time) Kempton Park days, and you would watch the fish in facination, or give you a book to look at. I am glad that you have some pleasant memories of your childhood....
